Mycotoxin contamination (aflatoxin, fumonisin, and others) is a recognized, ongoing concern in the equine feed industry.
Mycotoxin contamination is well-documented enough that clay-based and yeast-cell-wall binders are already a standard part of many commercial equine feed programs, specifically to reduce mycotoxin absorption in the gut. What Does the Research Say About Humic Acid and Toxin Binding?
Humic acid has been studied specifically for its ability to bind aflatoxin, one of the most common mycotoxins found in feed. In a controlled study published in Poultry Science, researchers found that humic acid showed a high in vitro binding affinity for aflatoxin B1 and reduced measures of aflatoxin toxicity in live animal trials.¹

What About Fulvic Acid?
Fulvic acid is a smaller, more water-soluble relative of humic acid, studied mainly for how it affects the solubility and absorption of other compounds. Research published in the International Journal of Drug Development & Research found that fulvic acid can meaningfully enhance the solubility and dissolution of other compounds it's paired with, acting as a natural carrier molecule.³
Separately, a comprehensive toxicological evaluation of a fulvic and humic acid preparation — published in Toxicology Reports in 2020 — assessed safety across a battery of standard toxicology measures and did not identify concerning findings at the doses studied. That safety data matters, because it's part of what makes fulvic acid a reasonable ingredient to study further across species and body sizes.
What About TUDCA and Liver Support?
TUDCA (tauroursodeoxycholic acid) is a naturally occurring bile acid studied for its role in bile flow and cellular stress reduction. A clinical study published in the journal Diabetes found that TUDCA improved measures of liver and muscle insulin sensitivity in obese human subjects, supporting its role in liver-related metabolic function.
